Preventative
We all agree that prevention is better than the cure and the same rings true for our oral health. Current studies also indicate a stronger correlation between our dental health and its effect on other systemic diseases. For example a diabetic with poorly maintained oral health has more difficulty managing their diabetes. This and many other reasons is why we encourage our patients to maintain their personal oral hygiene practices and to regularly augment that with our professional services. We help you to maintain the integrity and health of all the oral tissues from the teeth, gums, oral mucosa, salivary glands and the underlying bone.
Check up & Clean
We will thoroughly examine your mouth to check the health of your teeth and gums. Our dentists will also closely examine your oral tissues, including your tongue, cheeks and lips for any signs of lesions, lumps or changes in texture or colour. We will need to know about any medications or medical conditions as these could affect your dental health or any recommended treatments. Digital dental x-rays are taken periodically as these provide a more complete view of your mouth, including areas just below your gums, around the roots of teeth or in between your teeth. Digital x-rays are taken regularly to assess the teeth and surrounding tissues and help us assess decay and gum disease. We may also ask for a special panoramic Xray called an OPG to help us further diagnose lesions around the roots and bone structure.
Fissure Sealants
Are a protective sealant placed on the biting surface of molars and some premolars. They serve to protect and prevent the ssures and grooves from developing decay. Fissure sealants can be placed at any age, although they are usually placed at around the time the permanent molars erupt at approximately 6-7 years old for the rst molars and 12-13 years old for the second molars
Dental Care for Children
We usually recommend a child’s first check up at around 2-3 years old. This visit will be very informal, and more of an introduction to the dentist. They will have a ride in the chair and if willing the dentist will count their teeth. We always aim to eliminate fearful perceptions of the dentist for children and adults alike. This management of any negative feelings is best dealt with early.
We treat children under the Medicare funded CDBS.
Please inform us if your child qualifies for this scheme and arrive 10 minutes earlier so we can verify eligibility with Medicare and complete all the administrative requirements.
